I am currently the Head of Geography in a secondary school in Dartford, but am due to retire at the end of the year. That will conclude my 17 years as a teacher. I went into teaching after spending 20 years as a geophysicist working in the oil exploration industry both here and in America.
I have two grown up sons who both work in education, my eldest is currently studying to become a teacher in Australia.
I have always known the values of a good education and very much wish to still be able to provide some practical input even after my retirement. Working in a secondary school has shown me just how important the work of the primary schools are in preparing students for their later studies as the attitudes and skills installed into them in the early years stay with them throughout their school life.
Therefore I am very happy to be a governor of this school and hope to provide increasing useful service especially once I have more free time to devote to the position once I retire.
