At the Flourish Federation, our team work closely together to establish a coordinated approach to SEN. This means that as your child progresses through the federation, there should be a seamless approach to support and awareness of individual circumstances and pathways.
Mrs Freeman is our SENCo and is responsible for overseeing the support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across The Flourish Federation.
Key aspects of the SENCo role are:
- Identifying and assessing the needs of children who may require additional support
- Working closely with teachers, teaching assistants, and external professionals to plan effective support and interventions
- Coordinating SEN Support Plans and contributes to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
- Liaising with families, ensuring they are informed, supported, and involved in decisions
- Ensuring that the school follows the SEND Code of Practice (2015)
- Providing training and guidance for staff to deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching
In short, the SENCO plays a key role in making sure every child receives the right support to succeed, both academically and emotionally.
Gabby, our FLO, is a key member of staff who works to build strong, supportive relationships between school and home. Within the context of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), the FLO plays an important role in supporting both the child and their family throughout their school journey.
Key aspects of the role of the FLO:
- Acting as a friendly and approachable point of contact for families who may have concerns about their child’s learning, wellbeing, or emotional needs
- Supporting parents in navigating processes related to SEN support, including referrals, paperwork, and access to external services
- Working closely with the SENCO to ensure families feel informed, involved, and reassured throughout their child’s support pathway
- Helping identify where early help or pastoral support may be needed, and can signpost families to appropriate agencies and services
- Building trusted relationships with children, especially those with SEMH needs or those facing challenges outside of school
- Supporting attendance, routines, and transitions, including when children move between settings or return from periods of absence
In short, the FLO provides practical, emotional, and pastoral support to help families feel empowered, connected, and confident in working with the school to meet their child’s needs.
