RED TED/RALF

Read Every Day, Talk Every Day

At the Flourish Federation reading is central to our ethos. Red Ted was our Executive headteacher's brainwave to get children reading.

Children first meet Red Ted in assembly with Mrs Woods before starting their home reading journey with him.
When reading at home we have Red Ted inspired rewards to give the children a goal to reach. They do this by collecting a Red Ted stamp each time they read at home. By the time they have earned all of their Red Ted reading rewards good home reading habits have been installed and the children are on the road to reading for enjoyment!

RALF

Read And Leap Forward

Once children reach Year 3 and enter the junior school, they leave Red Ted behind and are joined by RALF.

RALF (Read And Leap Forward) is a more grown up reward system which enable children to continue to expand their reading knowledge whilst diving into a wealth of reading material.

Children work towards new prizes as they read, including badges that can be sown onto school jumpers in order for the children to proudly show off their achievements.

This year was our first with RALF and, as with any new idea, some things need tweaking. Therefore, over the summer we will be reviewing the reward structure so that we can fine-tune the scheme - Thank you for all of the feedback that we have had this year, which will help to inform these decisions.
