This week we are exploring number families, bonds and facts more closely. Builiding on what the children will have started to learn in Year 1. It is important that children understand and spot patterns when splitting up numbers and also understand how addition and subtraction are opposites from each other. If you know that 2+3=5, you also know that 5-2=3 and 5-2=3. Finally we will be tackling 10 and 1 more or less than a given number. We have already done a lot of work on Place Value and Splitting up numbers so hopefully many children will be able to do this mentally. If more support is needed Children will be provided with 100sq's to help them. Doing this sort of work with numbers help the children become more confident with juggling numbers and will set them up nicely for next week in which we will more onto pictorial methods to add numbers using base 10.
For this lesson you will need practical resources such as counters if your child is doing it practically, if not nothing else is needed. (See Plan)
