Week 2 - 11th January

Here you will find our documents/PDFs or PowerPoints for Teaching of the Live Zooms and also any follow-up activities that we want the children to complete.

Work can be completed in the children’s green Home Learning Books or on any paper you have home. We are asking that all work completed at home be either photographed and sent via dojo or brought into school when we return.

 Monday

Please find all resources attached underneath the explanation of the activities.

Phonics - See activities on Phonics Monday PPT - Revising short vowel sounds. (We will work through this on the Live Zoom).

Additional Activity: Draw pictures including the short vowel sound and label - can you make a sentence using it.

Education City - Spellings -> Vowels

English - We will practise the activity on Zoom then children will complete it independently at home.

  • Task 1: Number your instructions from 1 to 8 in the order you think they go in. Cut them out if you want to/if this is easier.
  • Task 2: Choose a time adverbial (first, next, last, finally) to go at the beginning of the instructions? Remember this tells us WHEN the sentence is happening.
  • Task 3: Can you include any adverbs that are appropriate for the instructions? Remember an adverb describes HOW a verb is done.

Extension: **Can you think of any warnings or extra tips you may need to give someone when they are cooking?

Can your child add some conjunctions? If you know your child is capable they can do this also. E.g. Next, chop up your chosen toppings into very small pieces à carefully so you don’t cut your fingers!

Topic - Drawing our own maps.

  • PPT Maps Lesson 1 (We will go through this on Zoom): Look at the map I have drawn, discuss where this is a map of. What objects can you see? What might they be? Talk about the benefits of a key to help us know what items are and so we don't have to have lots of labels and writing on our map.
  • Independent Task 1: Choose a room in your house and draw your own map - try to include all the objects and pieces of furniture - think about where they are and how big they are compared to each other.
  • Independent Task 2: Add a key showing what each of the things are on your map.

Reading

*Reading your reading book or a book from home.

Tuesday

Phonics - See activities on Phonics Tuesday PPT - Discuss long vowel sounds and how they can be spelt in different ways. Look at the 'ai' sound and 'ee' sound and the different ways to spell these. (We will work through this on the Live Zoom).

Additional Activity: See sorting PPT - look at pictures, decide what the word is and sort into correct column using correct spelling (we will talk about answers tomorrow).

English - We will read and practise this activity on Zoom then children will complete it independently at home.

  • Task 1: What will you put in your pirate stew? Draw a big stew pot or cauldron or use the template provided.
  •  Task 2: Children to choose 4 or 5 items to put inside thinking carefully about what pirates might eat.
  • Task 3: Describe the nouns (things) with two high quality adjectives (last week’s learning). Please don’t accept first ideas, children can usually think of many more and they get better.
  • Task 4: Around the outside, can you think of some verbs to tell us how we could prepare each thing? Chop, slice, stir, mash?

Extension: * Use a thesaurus to help you with those exciting adjectives. Synonyms and Antonyms of Words | Thesaurus.com

Wednesday

Phonics  - See activities on Phonics Wednesday PPT - Discuss long vowel sounds 'ai' sound and 'ee' sound. (We will work through this on the Live Zoom).

Additional Activity: See search and highlight PPT - look for words containing the 'ai' and 'ee' sounds (these can be any spelling).

English - We will start to create a picture plan on Zoom then children will complete it independently at home.

> Task 1: Discuss and repeat - what is an adverb? What is a time adverbial?

> Task 2: What do we need to include in our own instructions (show children how to make crumpet pizzas, what do we need to remember for our instructions)?

> Task 3: Picture plan. Step 1: pick 4 nouns (pirate food) to go into your stew. Step 2: Pick two adjectives to describe your pirate food. Step 3: Pick 4 verbs, are you going to chop, stir, sprinkle the ingredients? Step 4: Pick you time adverbial, firstly, secondly, after that. Step 5: Challenge, can you add an adverb into your plan?

**

Continue and finish your picture plan after the live Zoom ends.

> Task 4: Write your instructions for your pirate stew.

Try to include the clouds for adverbs as they are our main focus for the week. Please encourage your child to include verbs and adjectives if you know they are finding this task too easy

Only suggestions of improvements that they can make to their plans. The basic plan is also above : )
Let us know if you aren’t sure of what your child should do.

Topic - Directions using maps

PPT Maps Lesson 2 (we will go through this on zoom): Remind children of the use of North, South, East and West for instructions. Look at other words that can be used.

  • Independent Task 1: Find and bury (hide) your own piece of treasure in the room you made your map for - don't forget to show this on your map - X marks the spot!
  • Independent Task 2: Mark North, South, East and West on your map, use the rhyme Naughty Elephants Squirt Water - if you aren't sure, just choose the top of your page as North. (You can find out where North is - google maps is useful for this : ) )
  • Independent Task 3: Give instructions of how to reach your treasure, don't forget to decide where you will start (maybe the door?).  These can be instructions verbally to someone in your house or you can write them down.

Reading

*Reading your reading book or a book from home.

**Access BugClub for a wide range of books that we use at school (please message us on Dojo if you need books updated/are having any trouble with this).

  3. Extension: associated work sheet.

Maths -

Zoom Call Input:

1. Discussing learning from last week- key vocab: 2d,  vertices, edges and what these actually mean.

2. Moving on to discuss 3d shapes- what does this actually mean? (A shape which has length, height and depth).

3. CT  to work through power point with the children discussing each 3d shape.

4. CT to explain to the children their activity challenge- to create a 3d junk model from recycling/what they have found around the house. This can be shown on tomorrows zoom call with the children, photos uploaded to dojo are also very welcome and will be printed off by TAs to go in their learning journals.

5. Independent activity- Children to have a go at creating a junk model. If parents do not wish their children to do this I have also uploaded some differentiated colouring worksheets as an alternative.

Expectations:

All children- make a simple model.

Most- make a model and be able to explain cube/cuboid/cylinder.

Some- make a model and be able to explain all the shapes they may have used and notice that some shapes are not a specific 3d shape- for example: Mince pie tins for eyes.

AFTER BREAK

6. Continue and finish junk model.

7. Play education city game Sunny shapes, I have also added onto their accounts the associated worksheet with this and will also attach to the files on this website. :)

Note- If possible could parents make sure that their child has the 3d shape properties mat to refer to in tomorrows Zoom input. It is attached with Fridays Documents.

What differences did you notice between meal times in your home and how Jewish people eat their meals during shabbat?

What is the name of the special little cup- keddush cup

Celebrating Shabbat at the synagogue - KS1 Religious Education - BBC Bitesize

What is the name of the Jewish place of worship? Does it remind you of anywhere else?

Why do Jewish People think that it is important?

What is the name of the language they sing and read in?

  1. Explain to the children what their independent activity is: Children to fold a piece of paper in half, on one side draw a picture of what their family might look like on a Friday night- they might be doing homework, or playing on video games, they might be eating on their own etc.  They can then draw a picture of what their family might look like on a Friday night if they were Jewish.

All children- be able to draw two pictures showing the difference.

Most children will be able to draw two pictures showing the difference and add labels to explain- for example, all the family together, no homework or computers etc, special cups and food.

Some children will be able to draw two pictures and write a paragraph underneath describing what their Saturday would usually look like and how it would be different if they were Jewish.
