Week 4 - 25th January

Here you will find our documents/PDFs or PowerPoints for Teaching of the Live Zooms and also any follow-up activities that we want the children to complete.

Work can be completed in the children’s green Home Learning Books or on any paper you have home. We are asking that all work completed at home be either photographed and sent via dojo or brought into school when we return.

 Monday

Please find all resources attached underneath the explanation of the activity.

Phonics - Today we will go through the spellings for this week (see above), talking about segmenting to spell and using drawings to help us remember tricky words. (We will be working through these on the Live Zoom).

Additional Activity: Have a go at practising your spellings at home.

English - We will practise the activity on Zoom then children will complete it independently at home.

Task 1: Can children match the fact box to the correct sub-heading? Read the fact box, which sub-heading matches the information best? Can you think of a better sub-heading and create your own?

Task 2: Pick out any unknown words e.g. inhabited, solar system, peculiar, extraordinary, invader and create a glossary using Dictionary.com | Meanings and Definitions of Words at Dictionary.com to find out the meaning.

Task 3: Match the statement, question or exclamation sentence with the right punctuation. Can they pick an appropriate sentence opener (use the sentence opener mat)?

Topic - Discuss human and physical features and look at examples. (Will go through this on Zoom).
• Show the children the slide showing a map of ‘Spring Town’ - a make-believe town. Ask the children to
read the map, what can they see? What do they notice about the town? What key human features can
they spot? Is there anything wrong with the town?
• Explain to the children that today they will be designing their own town, so they will need to think about
the different features in their town, their location and how to make it a great town for its residents to live
in.
• Show the children the slides showing the problems that Spring Town is experiencing; how could they
make sure that their town has a better design?

Task - Design their own town on the design sheet below (3 Levels).

Task 3: On the outside: What do the aliens eat? What do they do? Where do they live (habitat)? If you can think of your own sub-heading/chunk of information you can use that instead. Try to only use short phrases, they don’t need to be sentences right now.

Task 4: Talk like an Expert – use most, all, some, many, a few to answer the questions about aliens pretending you are an alien expert.
