Week 5 - 1st February

Here you will find our documents/PDFs or PowerPoints for Teaching of the Live Zooms and also any follow-up activities that we want the children to complete.

Work can be completed in the children’s green Home Learning Books or on any paper you have home. We are asking that all work completed at home be either photographed and sent via dojo or brought into school when we return.

Please find all resources attached underneath the explanation of the activities each day.

Please use for this weeks instruction writing! Start practicing Monday/Tuesday.

Monday

Phonics - Today we will go through the spellings for this week (see above), talking about segmenting to spell and using drawings to help us remember tricky words. (We will be working through these on the Live Zoom).

Additional Activity: Have a go at practising your spellings at home.

English - We will practise the activity on Zoom then children will complete it independently at home.

ØTask 1: Design your own alien sandwich. Remember to use adjectives for each ingredient.
ØTask 2: How To Make An Alien Spaceship.

The instructions are numbered. However, they are quite boring!

Pick a time adverbial to put at the beginning of your sentence.

Which adverb fits with your instruction? How do you need to do it?

Do you need to add any warnings whilst making your spaceship?

ØTask 3: Play the Verb Game (mime with your mum, dad, brother or sister). Which verb could the picture be? Try to use thesaurus to help you think of exciting words. E.g. cried à blubbered, wailed. Not just the first verb that comes into your head.

Topic We will go through the task together on Zoom
Task is then set on Purple Mash.

•    To understand what an algorithm is.
•    To create a computer program using simple algorithms.

Completed together on Zoom -Firstly, we are going to review the coding vocabulary that the pupils learnt in year 1. Use the quiz as a class.
Explain that today, the class will be working on a new word: algorithm.
Have a look at the definition together using the vocabulary cards.
Show pupils the Air Traffic Control lesson. Work through challenges 1 and 2 with the pupils, reading through the blocks of code. Explain that we are following the instructions for what the code should do and then turning it into code. An algorithm is a precise step by step set of instructions used to solve a problem or achieve an objective. When coding, we write algorithms for how the code should work then we turn the algorithms into computer code so that the computer can follow the algorithm. In the example, the algorithm is about making the planes move in different directions, so they look like they are taking off. We turn the algorithm into 2Code code that the computer can understand.

Activity: Children to complete Air Traffic Control lesson independently on PurpleMash

Reading

*Reading your reading book or a book from home.

**Access BugClub for a wide range of books that we use at school (please message us on Dojo if you need books updated/are having any trouble with this).

***Have a go at the Reading Comprehension below, please choose the correct level to meet your child's ability by scrolling down *   ** or *** (completely up to you how many you decided your child can complete):

Tuesday

Phonics - See activities on Phonics - Tuesday - Continue our work on homophones - blue and blew.

Optional independent activity: Homophones worksheet below.

English - We will be planning on Zoom/at school today. Children will help the teachers come up with a plan for their alien sandwich then will complete it themselves independently as this is our week to carry out  independent assessments to see where children are in their Writing Journey.

ØTask 1: Finish picture plan. Allow your child to be as independent as possible. This is supposed to be an independent assessment where they try to do it on their own as much as possible.

ØTask 2: Can children add a (You will need ingredients) section to their plan just by drawing pictures of the ingredients and also include a warning at the bottom? E.g. Warning: Do NOT feed this to humans otherwise it may cause food poisoning!

Picture plan must include: time adverbs, adjectives and trying to include adverbs as much as possible. Extension: Using conjunctions - and, so, but, because, additionally, etc

Topic - PPA afternoon. Music or P.E Activity.

 PE | Flourish Federation

Music - see attached below.

Wednesday

Phonics  - We will go through this on Zoom - /aɪ/ spelt ‘i’ in common exception words (find, kind, mind, behind, child, wild, climb)

Discuss kind - how can this help us to spell the other words? Children have a go at spelling this then put these words into sentences.

Optional activity - Wordsearch below.

English -  Today there is no PPT. Children will  use their plan from yesterday to write their alien sandwich instructions. Class teachers will model how we use our plan to finish our writing on Zoom and in class for children in school. You can do this in 2 chunks over the morning time. I have attached a high level example in the resources section.

Reminders: Re-read your sentence as soon as you have finished it.

Checklist for each sentence: Time adverb, adjectives, adverb. Check all three. Move onto the next sentence smiley

Topic -   We will go through how to use Free Code Chimp on Purple Mash on the Zoom call. If your child can't come on, there are instructions on the PPT below.

Try this on PurpleMash

All should be able to do the 1 star sheet concerned only with the how.

Most should be able to do the 2 star sheet with how, when etc. with word bank support.

Some will be able to do the 3 star sheet where they must think of their own words.

Maths-

Zoom input: Pictograms- Work through the ppt with the children. We will do our own mini data collection of pets to show how this works.

Follow up: Creating a pictogram- use purple mash 2count to create a 1-2-1 tally. If you need a challenge then you can have a go at creating your own from scratch using the template of a ratio of 1 picture to 2 items.
