Getting out is so important and it should not always be a chore to think of the next thing to do with your children - and neither should it always be something that costs the earth. 

 

We have put together some suggestions of places to go and visit, or activities to engage in for those moments when you might feel a little stumped. 

 

We are sure that most are probably familiar to you but sometimes that little nudge to something forgotten can be a lifesaver when you are struggling for ideas. Or perhaps you will discover something new that you had not heard of or considered.

  • The Science Museum There are lots of exhibitions and film activities to suit all ages in the family.
  • Tate Modern Explore modern and contemporary art from around the world.
  • Chislehurst Caves The caves at Chislehurst in Kent, are a labyrinth of man- made tunnels, forming a maze covering over six hectares and up to thirty metres below the homes and woodland above.
  • Dover Castle Experience British History through the ages at this amazing castle.
  • Bewl Water Enjoy the nature, the woodlands and the water sports.
  • Kent Life Find out about life in the Kent countryside. Meet the animals on the farm and find out about how people lived in the past.
  • Maidstone Museum Offers a wide collection of artifacts from all periods of history. The museum offers fantastic activities during school holidays.
  • Chatham Dockyard There are lots of exciting things to do here, from exploring inside a submarine to making rope. Your ticket lasts all year, so you don't have to rush to see everything on this massive site.
  • Leeds Castle "The most beautiful castle in the world" has something for all the family to enjoy. Tickets last a year, so repeat visits are affordable.
  • Kent and East Sussex Railway Ride on a steam train through beautiful countryside. There is an interesting museum to visit and beautiful Bodiam Castle is only a short walk from the terminus station.
  • Rochester Guildhall Museum Plenty of history with particular focus on the life of Dickens and the prisoner hulks in the River Medway
  • Rochester Castle This imposing fortress has a complex history of destruction and rebuilding.
  • Battle Abbey An incredible, historic abbey set on the site of the Norman Conquest of 1066.
  • Hever Castle Experience 700 years of history and award-winning gardens at the 13th century Hever Castle once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn.
