“The principal aim of RE is to engage pupils in systematic enquiry into significant human questions which religion and worldviews address, so that they can develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate and appraise varied responses to these questions, as well as develop responses of their own.”
Kent Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2022-202
In our Religious Education curriculum, we aim to inspire children to learn about the beliefs of others, to develop an understanding and respect for people of other cultures and faiths, and to transfer this into their day-to-day lives. We believe it is vital to provide children with opportunities to make links between what they have learnt and how this affects their worldview and choices in life.
At the Flourish Federation, we follow the Kent Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. For a full breakdown of coverage, please reference the Kent Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2022-2027 document.
The whole school visited the Methodist Church to see the Christmas tree display that tells the story of Christmas. Each tree had decorations that showed a part of the Christmas story, from the angels announcing Jesus’ birth to the stable in Bethlehem.
Year 3 also attended a Christingle service, where we learnt about the meaning of the Christingle and what each part represents. It was a lovely way to celebrate and remember where Christmas origniated.
Year 3 had a wonderful visit to Holy Trinity Church, taking part in a fun scavenger hunt to discover and learn about different symbols and objects used in a Christian church. The children explored the church, spotting items like the cross, altar, and stained glass windows, and learned about their meanings in Christian worship.
The children enjoyed a delightful Christian pantomime presented by the Family Trust, full of festive fun, storytelling and opportunities to explore the Christmas message in an engaging way.
