Maths learning in EYFS is focused around the children's individual needs, interests and abilities. Children have a daily maths session but most learning happens during Child Initiated Time, where they are provided with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces and measures.
Each Knowledge Organiser will show you how 'Number' and 'Shape, Space and Measure' is introduced, the resources we would use and some examples of reasoning and problem solving tasks which might be used within the learning environment. Our Maths lessons are full of questioning and discussions - children being able to explain (reason) their maths thinking is something we embed straight away.
