RSE and Health Education - Relationship & Sex Education and Health Education

Programme of Study

We follow Jigsaw at Brookfield Infant School. Jigsaw is the mindful approach to PSHE (including RSE). Designed as a whole-school approach, Jigsaw PSHE / Health and Well-being provides a detailed and comprehensive scheme of learning for ages 3-16. Jigsaw provides well-structured, progressive lesson plans with all teaching resources included. Jigsaw is a unique, spiral, progressive and effective scheme of work, aiming to prepare children/young people for life, helping them really know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world.

Our RSE education offers both explicit and implicit learning opportunities and experiences which reflect pupils' increasing independence and physical and social awareness, as they move through the primary phase. It builds on the skills that pupils started to acquire during the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility and manage personal safety, including online. RSE education introduces them to a wider world and enables them to make an active contribution to their communities.

The Flourish Federation's mantra to Nurture, Inspire, Achieve is reflected during shared in our teaching of RSE during Jigsaw lessons but also during assemblies, RE and PE lessons, Forest School, nurture groups, parent sessions and during daily opportunities within the rich learning environment of the school.

We seek to ensure that our little people continue to grow physically, mentally, academically and emotionally as they travel through their childhood well prepared for each step towards adulthood.
